Yin Yoga
Guest Instructor: Jai Cast
My yoga journey began watching my mom practice yoga as a child. At the time, I thought it was something adults did to be healthy. I tried it a few times growing up, but as a kid, I did not have the patience to do these seemingly strange poses and did not feel the benefit either. At that point, my athletics progressed without yoga, first in high school as I competed in swimming, then in college I transitioned to triathlon. While participating in triathlon I injured myself and could no longer train, which brought yoga back into my life, as I decided to try it again during my rehabilitation as both a means of healing and a way to exercise in a restorative way. It worked! I felt amazing after practicing yoga, relaxed and at ease, and from there I never looked back. I completed 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training with Cloud Nine Yoga in 2007 and began teaching at my office as part of the corporate “great place to work” wellness program. I continue to practice vinyasa yoga with an emphasis on yin yoga, pranayama, and meditation. In 2017 I completed another 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training at White Lotus with Ganga White and Tracey Rich. I am excited to meet you on the mat. Namaste!
Yin Yoga
At its core, Yin yoga is a quiet practice of floor poses held passively for several minutes. The practice involves moving slowly to an appropriate sensation in the joint and relaxing in stillness for 3 – 5 minutes. Practicing in this way focuses attention to range of motion in the joints, as Yin targets connective tissue as well as muscle tissue. Poses are held passively with acceptance of the present moment, letting go of expectations or results. Since all too often many of us encounter stress and hectic schedules at home, school, or work, Yin practice provides a calming energy and a sense of serenity and balance of both body and mind, to one’s daily routine. This event is suitable for all levels and newcomers are encouraged to attend. Tickets are non-refundable. All minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
