What is Your Mission?

Feb 01, 2012 09:19PM ● By Shelley Riutta, MSE, LPC

One of the things that has helped me move forward so powerfully in my practice is to have clarity about my Mission – my bigger "Why" for why I’m doing what I’m doing. This Mission is an expanding, evolving Mission and the more you can begin to tune into it, the easier your path will be.

We all have a deeper spiritual mission for being on the planet – particularly Therapists and Healers. Therapists and Healers are on the leading edge of the growth and expansion that is happening on the planet.

The more clarity you have about your Mission, the easier it will be for you to move beyond your fears and take action. When we are in service to our Mission, we can let go of the smaller fears of our ego like: "What will people think?" "Am I good enough?" "What if I fail?"

I often tell my Holistic Practice coaching clients who are in fear, "If you are in fear, you are in your ego and have lost focus of your Mission – which is to be of Service." When you are focused on service, you are in your Higher Self, being an ambassador of Light and Healing on the planet – it is not about you!

I coach a client that by not getting their information product done because of fear, they are stopping the beautiful flow of being in Service and helping people with their gifts. When they really understand this deeply, they let the fear fall away and joyfully move forward in their business.

Tips to Tune Into and Live Your Mission

Take some time out every six months to clarify your Mission. Go to a beautiful, inspiring place and ask yourself, "What is my Mission on the planet right now – how am I here to serve?" Just let yourself freely write. Do not try to figure it out in your head – let it flow from your Spirit.

Post your Mission visibly in your work space as a reminder of where your focus needs to be.

When you are in fear and procrastinate, gently bring yourself back to the phrase "This isn’t about me – it is about being of Service; I can release my fears."

Remember that you are not alone with your Mission. You have tremendous Spiritual support that is always with you – walking with you every step of the way. Remind yourself of this and open up to this loving support. I remember a friend of mine telling me that Spirit was her "Silent Partner" in the work she did in the world.

Let your Mission expand. Oftentimes our fears will cloud over our true Mission and keep us playing small. Give yourself permission to be all that you came here to be – and to not hold ANYTHING back!

When you hold yourself back from play, small things will be much harder for you. Surprisingly, the bigger you allow yourself to play – moving beyond your fears – the easier things will get for you.

Playing bigger does not mean you have to be on stage in front of thousands sharing your message. Many people have missions that are not in the public eye but are equally as powerful. The important thing is to make sure you are being of service to the many people you came here to serve – and oftentimes you will need to be more visible than you are to do that (so people can find you).

Make sure your Mission includes lots of self-care and nurturing of YOU. Gone are the days when you have to sacrifice your own well being to serve others.  Affirm: "I am supported and nurtured by myself and the Universe as I step out fully to live my Mission."
