Traditional periodontal surgery may involve incisions, sutures, and the removal or repositioning of gum tissue. LANAP™ uses precision laser technology to target diseased tissue and bacteria within periodontal pockets while helping preserve healthy surrounding tissue.

During treatment, a small laser fiber is gently placed between the tooth and gum to address infection. Because the procedure is minimally invasive, patients may experience less discomfort and a more comfortable recovery than with traditional periodontal surgery.

What Patients Can Expect

A patient’s first visit begins with a review of their dental and medical history, followed by a comprehensive periodontal examination. The team will also review applicable financial information before treatment.

For LANAP™ treatment, a small laser fiber is placed between the tooth and gum to target the periodontal infection. When appropriate, medications and detailed post-treatment instructions will be provided. Many patients can resume normal activities quickly following treatment.

Dr. Yu and his team will provide individualized home-care instructions and typically schedule a postoperative visit approximately 7–10 days after treatment to evaluate healing and progress.
