At its core, Yin yoga is a quiet practice of floor poses held passively for several minutes. The practice involves moving slowly to an appropriate sensation in the joint and relaxing in stillness for 3 – 5 minutes. Practicing in this way focuses attention to range of motion in the joints, as Yin targets connective tissue as well as muscle tissue. Poses are held passively with acceptance of the present moment, letting go of expectations or results. Since all too often many of us encounter stress and hectic schedules at home, school, or work, Yin practice provides a calming energy and a sense of serenity and balance of both body and mind, to one’s daily routine.
